Eskinder Nega left Ethiopia after his passport was given back

(OiPlatform): Journalist and former prisoner of conscience Eskinder Nega has left Ethiopia for the Netherlands after his passport was given back to him.
Initially he was prohibited from leaving the country. According to reports, his passport was confiscated while he was trying to fly to Europe.
He was traveling to the Netherlands to attend a 50th year’s Amnesty International Dutch Office Anniversary.
The immigration officers who confiscated his passport told him that he should speak to the Head Office.
Now the questions are: if freedom of movement is restricted, what is the point of being released from Prison? What are the fates of other recently released prisoners? Are they going to be denied any travel outside the country?
